Students are required to memorize and learn forty paintings and drawings. Among the information being learned is the time period that they were created, and the artists’ information. Creative Writing (2nd Grade) Students will be shown a picture and will write something about it. The students can describe the picture or write a story about it. Math (2nd – 4th Grade) Students will be given math problems that are one year ahead of their own grade level. If the student is in 2nd grade the student will learn math problems for a 3rd grader. Number Sense (3rd & 4th) Students will learn to do math problems without writing anything on their papers except the answer. Students will be drilled in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and roman numerals as examples of some of the information they must know. Oral Reading English (3rd & 4th ) Students will learn how to read a poem to a judge. In this event, students do not use their school shirt during competition and are required to dress in their Sunday best clothes. Oral Reading Spanish (2nd – 4th ) Students will learn how to read a poem to a judge in Spanish. In this event, students do not use their school shirt during competition and are required to dress in their Sunday best clothes. Spanish Storytelling Spanish (2nd & 3rd ) Students will learn how to retell a story in Spanish with expression. In this event, students do not use their school shirt during competition and are required to dress in their Sunday best clothes. Spelling (2nd – 4th ) Students who are in Spelling will learn to spell words, learn their root language, their definition, and how to write the word without any erased marks. Storytelling (2nd & 3rd ) Students will learn how to retell a story in English with expression. In this event, students do not use their school shirt during competition and are required to dress in their Sunday best clothes. Music Memory (3rd & 4th) Students will learn how to identify composers and music titles from Beethoven, Bach, and other composers by listening to music. Chess (3rd & 4th) Students will learn problem solving, hones concentration and encourages analytical and strategic thinking. |
